Retirees Endorse Steven Horsford for Re-Election in Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District

“Senior Champion” is an essential voice for Nevada’s retirees in Congress

North Las Vegas, NV –  Today, members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Steven Horsford for re-election in Nevada 4th Congressional District. The Nevada Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization which represents more than 19,000 union retirees and community activists across the state.

“Rep. Horsford takes nothing for granted and has already proven that he will look out for older people in Nevada. He has earned a lifetime 100% score in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record,” said Tom Bird, president of the Nevada Alliance. “He knows that seniors in his district live on fixed incomes, and he has battled every day to protect our retirement security.”

Horsford serves on the Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and pensions – all of which are vital retiree programs. He accepted the endorsement virtually via Zoom, forgoing an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 215,000 American lives, 80 percent of whom are over the age of 65.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Alliance for Retired Americans. As we face a continued attack on Social Security and Medicare by this administration, it’s more important than ever to make sure older Americans have a voice in Congress,” said Congressman Horsford. “I’ll continue to be a champion and to stand up for the rights of our retired communities as we push to enshrine Medicare, Social Security, and other critical programs.”

Bird also noted the $500 billion in proposed Medicare cuts by the Trump Administration and the rising concern among seniors about the cost of healthcare in the midst of a pandemic.

“Now more than ever, it is vital that we have representatives in Washington who care about older Nevadans and vote accordingly,” emphasized Bird. “In these uncertain times, voting for the right person is literally a matter of life or death.”
