Retiree Group Endorses Rita Hart for U.S. House

Cites Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits

Davenport, IA – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Rita Hart for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District today. The Iowa Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 31,000 members across the state.

“Rita Hart takes nothing for granted, and Iowa retirees are confident that she will look out for older people in Washington,” said Mike McCarthy, president of the Iowa Alliance for Retired Americans. “She knows that seniors in her district live on fixed incomes, and she will battle every day to protect our retirement security.”

Ms. Hart accepted the endorsement virtually via Zoom, forgoing an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 195,000 American lives, 80 percent of whom are over the age of 65.

“Thank you to the members of the Alliance for Retired Americans for your endorsement. We need to listen to the voices of seniors who are saying, ‘We earned these Social Security and Medicare benefits, we paid into this system. This is a promise that needs to be kept for us, and it’s a promise that needs to be kept for our children and our grandchildren,'” said Ms. Hart. “These programs help keep this economy going and make this country more successful.”

“Now more than ever, it is vital that we have representatives in Washington who care about older Iowans and vote accordingly,” emphasized McCarthy. “In these uncertain times, voting for the right person is literally a matter of life or death.”
