New Retiree Voting Record Report Released

The Alliance for Retired Americans released its 2020 Congressional Voting Record, which scored each U.S. Senator and Representative on critical retirement security issues, today.

“Almost every member of Congress claims to care about older Americans,” said Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance. “This report considers key House and Senate floor votes to determine who actually stood up for seniors in the midst of a global pandemic. It is a tragedy that more than 443,000 Americans 65-years-old and older died of COVID-19.”

The annual report reviewed 10 Senate and House floor votes including bills and amendments to address the pandemic by providing funds to improve health and safety in nursing homes and fund coronavirus treatments and vaccines; adequately fund the Postal Service to ensure the delivery of prescription medications; stop the repeal of the Affordable Care Act; and protect older workers from discrimination.

Forty-seven members of the U.S. Senate and 214 members of the U.S. House of Representatives earned perfect 100 percent scores. Thirty-seven senators earned scores of 20% or below, including John Thune (SD, 11%); Charles Grassley (IA, 20%), Ron Johnson (WI, 20%) and Mitch McConnell (KY, 20%). Eighty-six House members earned a score of 0%.

“What happens in Washington, DC matters to the daily lives of retirees and their families. Votes in Congress can strengthen or weaken retirement security immediately and into the future,” said Fiesta. “We urge all older Americans to review our Voting Record to make sure they know what their senators and representatives are doing for them.”

Both the national 2020 Congressional Voting Record and a version for each state delegation is available online at https://retiredamericans.org/voting-record.

  1. Democrats must keep control of the House & Senate. I don’t trust the Republicans of today to do anything good for the Country or people

  2. Too many Republicans and some Democrats are in it for money and their seat, but the voice of what the American people want is not heard. We have a select people hurting us rather than helping us.

  3. The Republicans led by Mitch McConnell obstructed every piece of legislation during President Obama eight years.
By delaying President Obamas nominee for replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Judge Merrick Garland was refused a hearing in the Senate but Moscow Mitch held the position hostage until after the 2016 elections. Then, he rushed through anti-family, anti-worker, anti-union ultraright republicans. Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Barrett. Stacking the Supreme Court for the republican party with a super majority.
Since the pandemic hit in 2019 Mitch McConnell and the majority of republicans ‘refused to stand up’ against Donald Trump and refused to impeach him on two occasions, while doing nothing to stop the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, Trump, McConnell and the republicans allowed over 400,000 Americans to die.
Since then President Biden and Vice President Harris have caused over 30% of the American population to be vaccinated. Continuing to roll out the vaccine to the states in order to stop the pandemic and save thousands of lives.
McConnell, Capito, McKinley, Miller and the republican majority voted ‘against’ the American people without jobs, losing their healthcare, home foreclosures, renters being evicted, families unable to pay their bills and buy food for their children. What did the republicans do instead? Voted against the first stimulus until seven months later after million’s lost their jobs, healthcare, unemployment and refused to offer Americans any relief instead, gave billions to corporate America and the wealthiest 2% in tax breaks in the ‘first’ stimulus bill.
If it wasn’t for the democrats working families wouldn’t have got the $600.00 pittance. That was used within days by the American people. The republicans continued their ‘assault’ on working families and unions. Trumps anti Department of labor changes laws to benefit corporation in labor disputes, organizing. Trump issued executive orders that ‘required’ worker to go back to work in slaughterhouses when the pandemic was infecting and killing workers.
The latest ARA bill is to create thousands of new jobs, strike against climate change, rebuild our infrastructure in our towns, cities and states. Give financial relief to working families, small business and help create thousands of jobs in the wind, solar and geothermal areas.
What did the republicans do in regards to the latest $1400.00 stimulus payments for families and the infrastructure, jobs bill? EVERYONE of the republicans voted against it. So, they voted against US.
How many of the republican’s stood up for our democracy during Trump and the republican insurrection on our nations capitol? How many republicans spoke out against the insurrection and the killing’s at our nations capitol on January 6th (none).
These are just a ‘few’ things since Trump and the republicans assault on America. Most of you are aware of these events.
The republicans are now passing voter suppression bills after the 2020 elections, the largest turnout in Americans history of voting.
The Supreme court refused to hear trumps lawsuit of the big lie, voter fraud. And; six times the lower courts denied trumps assertion’s of the big lie.
Read how many times the republican’s voted against US in the Congress. Check their overall voting % and you’ll be wondering, as I did. As to why these anti-worker, anti-women, anti-labor and anti-democracy republicans, even after an attempted coup to overthrow our democracy even get elected?
They won’t if WE ALL come out and vote in the 2022 elections and give our friends the Democrat’s a larger majority in the House and the Senate.
As black lives matter. So, does your vote. WE’VE all seen what happens when the American voters stand together against tyranny, hate, violence, racism, bigotry, murder, anti-Semitism, and the cruel, cold and callous culture of the Trump and McConnell led republican party.
Your vote counts. We rid ourselves of wannabe dictator by casting our votes, in 2020.
