Retirees: Senate Must Confirm Julie Su as Labor Secretary

The following statement was issued by Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, regarding the Senate vote to confirm Julie Su as Labor Secretary:

“Julie Su is exceptionally qualified to be the next Secretary of Labor.

“She is a nationally recognized expert on workers’ rights and civil rights. Her experience in California as an attorney and state Labor Secretary and tenure as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor since 2021 show that she will fight for and protect the earned health and retirement benefits of active workers and retirees.

“A critical focus of her tenure as Deputy Secretary of Labor has been to increase the number of health and personal care workers in our country, which is especially important to older Americans.

“On behalf of the 4.4 million members of the Alliance for Retired Americans, we call on the Senate to confirm Julie Su without delay so she can get to work protecting our pensions, defending working people, and strengthening retirement security for all.”
