Retirees Endorse Dina Titus for Re-Election in Nevada’s First Congressional District
Cites Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits
Las Vegas, NV – Today, members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Dina Titus for re-election in Nevada 1st Congressional District. The Nevada Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization which represents more than 19,000 union retirees and community activists across the state.
“Rep. Titus has already proven that she will look out for older people in Washington. She has earned a lifetime 98% score in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record,” said Tom Bird, president of the Nevada Alliance. “We trust her to work to expand and preserve our hard earned Social Security and Medicare benefits. She knows that many seniors in her district rely on those benefits, and she’s working to protect all of our retirement security.”
Rep. Titus accepted the endorsement virtually via Zoom, forgoing an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 225,000 American lives, 80 percent of whom are over the age of 65. In Nevada, 1,756 people have died from the virus and 75% of the deceased were over 65.
“We have a moral obligation to our seniors to tell the truth about the coronavirus and do everything within our power to get it under control” said Rep. Titus. “I will continue fighting to protect our seniors, lower prescription drug prices, and safeguard Social Security and Medicare. I’m honored to have the support of the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans and I will keep working hard to make Nevada’s seniors proud.”
Bird also noted that constituents can count on Rep. Titus to keep fighting to lower drug prices. Last year she voted to require Medicare to negotiate lower prices for life-saving prescription drugs that older people rely on and to cap out of pocket health care costs for Medicare beneficiaries at $2,000 per year.
“Now more than ever, it is vital that we have representatives in Washington who care about older Nevadans and vote accordingly,” emphasized Bird. “In these uncertain times, voting for the right person is literally a matter of life or death.”
