Retiree Organization Endorses Ray Lenzi for U.S. House
Cites Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security Benefits
Carbondale, IL – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Ray Lenzi for election to the U.S. House from Illinois’ 12th Congressional District today. The Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 22,000 members in the district.
“Ray Lenzi understands the challenges facing older Americans, and retirees in Illinois can be confident that he will fight for our interests in Washington,” said Don Todd, president of the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans. “We trust him to work to expand and protect our Social Security benefits. He knows that many seniors in his district rely on their hard earned Medicare and Social Security benefits, and he’s working to protect all of our retirement security. We are proud to endorse him.”
Lenzi accepted the endorsement virtually via Zoom, forgoing an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 220,000 American lives, 80 percent of whom are over the age of 65. In Illinois, 9,605 people have died from the virus and 78% of the deceased were over 65.
In sharp contrast, Lenzi’s opponent, incumbent Rep. Mike Bost, has earned a lifetime score of just 12% in the Alliance’s Congressional Voting Record in the U.S. House. Bost has also worked to cut protections for people with pre-existing conditions and repeal the Affordable Care Act.
“We can count on Ray to fight to allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices for the life-saving prescription drugs older people rely on,” Todd continued. “Now more than ever, it is vital that we have senators and representatives in Washington who care about Illinois seniors and vote accordingly. In 2020 voting for the right person is literally a matter of life or death.”
