Retiree Organization Endorses Moe Davis for U.S. House
Cites Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security Benefits
Asheville, NC – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Moe Davis for election to the U.S. House from North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District today. The North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 52,000 members across the state.
“Moe Davis understands the challenges facing older Americans, and retirees in North Carolina can be confident that he will fight for our interests in Washington,” said Bill Dworkin, president of the North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans. “He knows that seniors have earned the Social Security and Medicare benefits they rely on, and he will battle every day to protect our retirement security. We are proud to endorse him.”
Davis accepted the endorsement virtually via Zoom, forgoing an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 214,000 American lives, 80 percent of whom are over the age of 65. In North Carolina, 3,770 people have died from the virus and 81% of the deceased were over 65.
“As a member of Congress, I’ll fight Republican efforts to privatize veterans’ healthcare and the Postal Service, as well as their assault on Social Security and Medicare benefits,’’ Davis said. “We need to ensure that the interests of ordinary people come first ahead of corporate profits.”
“We can count on Moe to fight to allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices for the life-saving prescription drugs older people rely on,” Dworkin continued. “Now more than ever, it is vital that we have senators and representatives in Washington who care about North Carolina seniors and vote accordingly. In 2020 voting for the right person is literally a matter of life or death.”
