Retiree Group Endorses Representative Lacy Clay
Cites Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits
St. Louis, MO – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Wm. Lacy Clay in the August 4 Democratic primary on Tuesday. Rep. Clay is running for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Missouri’s 1st Congressional District.
“Lacy Clay has earned a pro-retiree lifetime score of 98% in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record and has a proven history of protecting retiree interests during his time in Congress. We are confident that he is dedicated to strengthening and expanding Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid,” said Dave Meinell, President of the Missouri Alliance for Retired Americans. “Protecting earned benefits and pensions for retirees who have put in a lifetime of hard work is essential. We know Rep. Clay will stand up for seniors, and we are proud to support him in the election.”
“Republican leaders in Washington are explicitly calling for cuts to Social Security and Medicare, the programs that seniors rely on every day. It is more important than ever to send Representatives like Lacy Clay, who will protect these programs from cuts, back to Washington,” said Meinell. “We trust him to fight against any attempts to strip health insurance away from older Americans, especially those who have pre-existing conditions and are not yet eligible for Medicare. We also need him to work to lower prescription drug prices by requiring Medicare to negotiate lower prices.”
