Retiree Group Endorses Laura Gillen for Election to U.S. House
Cites Her Commitment to Strengthening and Increasing Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits
Mineola, NY – The Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced its endorsement of Laura Gillen for election to the U.S House from New York’s 4th Congressional District today. The Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 4.4 million members, including more than 30,500 in New York’s 4th CD.
“Laura Gillen understands the challenges facing older Americans, and retirees in New York can be confident that she will fight for our interests in Congress,” said Barry Kaufmann, President of the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans. “Her opponent Rep. Anthony D’Esposito does not. He earned a lifetime score of just 10% in the Alliance for Retired Americans annual Congressional Voting Record.”
“I am so honored to have the support of the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans. When you work hard your whole life, you deserve to retire with dignity. So in Congress, I will fight to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare for our seniors,” said Laura Gillen.
Anthony D’Esposito voted to slash funding for Alzheimer’s research, shutter Social Security Administration field offices and cut funding for Meals on Wheels.
“We trust Laura to work to strengthen and increase our hard earned Social Security and Medicare benefits. She knows that more than 146,000 people in the 4th Congressional District rely on Social Security benefits every month,” Kaufmann continued.
Rep. D’Esposito has also criticized the law that requires Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors; caps out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year; caps insulin copays at $35 per month; and makes necessary vaccines free for all Medicare beneficiaries. Ms. Gillen supports the law, which passed in 2022.
“The stakes couldn’t be higher for seniors like me. We need Laura Gillen in the House fighting against any Republican plan to cut Social Security and Medicare,” added Mr. Kaufmann. “That’s why Laura Gillen is the obvious choice for Nassau County seniors.”
