Retiree Group Endorses Kirsten Engel for Election to U.S. House
Cites Her Commitment to Protecting and Expanding Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits
Tucson, AZ – The Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced its endorsement of Kirsten Engel in the Democratic primary for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District today. The Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 4.4 million members including more than 8,400 in the Arizona 6th Congressional District.
“Kirsten Engel understands the challenges facing older Americans, and retirees in Arizona can be confident that she will fight for our interests in Washington,” said Kitty Kennedy, a member of the Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans. “She’s the best candidate to defeat Rep. Juan Ciscomani, who has earned a lifetime score of just 10% in the Alliance for Retired Americans annual Congressional Voting Record.”
“We trust Kirsten to work to preserve and expand our hard earned Social Security and Medicare benefits. She knows that more than 1.5 million Arizonans rely on Social Security benefits every month,” Kennedy continued.
“I’m proud to be endorsed by the Alliance for Retired Americans as I fight to ensure that everyone can retire with dignity,” said Kirsten Engel, candidate for Congress. “I look forward to being elected to Congress so I can protect and increase the Social Security and Medicare benefits that Arizona seniors have paid into throughout their lives.”
Rep. Ciscomani supports the Republican Study Committee plan that would raise the retirement age, slash Social Security, and impose deep cuts in Medicare. He opposed legislation to lower drug costs by requiring Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors; cap out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year; cap insulin copays at $35 per month; and make necessary vaccines free for all Medicare beneficiaries.
“The stakes couldn’t be higher for seniors like me. We need Kirsten Engel in the House fighting against any Republican plan to cut Social Security and Medicare,” added Ms. Kennedy. “That’s why Kirsten Engel is the obvious choice for Arizona seniors.”
