Retiree Group Endorses John Larson for Re-election to U.S. House
Cites Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits, Lowering Drug Prices
Hartford, CT – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of John Larson for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Connecticut’s 1st Congressional District today. The Connecticut Alliance is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 58,000 members across the state.
“Rep. Larson has already proven that he will look out for older people in Washington. He has earned a lifetime score of 99% in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record,” said Bette Marafino, president of the Connecticut Alliance for Retired Americans. “He has been a leader in the effort to expand and strengthen the Social Security and Medicare benefits we have earned. He knows that many seniors in his district rely on those benefits, and he’s working to protect all of our retirement security.”
“Rep. Larson has introduced a bill — Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust, H.R. 5723 — to expand Social Security across the board for current and new beneficiaries,” Ms. Marafino continued. “It increases benefits by $200 per month beginning in 2023 by requiring wealthy Americans to pay their fair share of payroll taxes on wages above $400,000. His bill will also restore earned Social Security benefits to more than 2 million public sector retirees by repealing the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset.”
In addition, Marafino noted that constituents can count on Rep. Larson to keep fighting to lower drug prices. He has previously voted in favor of H.R. 5376, a bill requiring Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors, cap out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year and cap insulin copays to $35 a month. H.R. 5376 also provides Medicare hearing benefits and $150 billion for Medicaid home care services.
