Retiree Group Endorses Adam Smith for Reelection to U.S. House
Cites His Commitment to Expanding and Protecting Earned Social Security and Medicare Benefits
Renton, WA – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Rep. Adam Smith for reelection to the U.S. House from Washington state’s 9th Congressional District (CD) today. The Washington state Alliance for Retired Americans is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 8,000 members in the CD.
“Rep. Smith has already proven as a member of the U.S. House that he will look out for Washington state seniors. He has earned a 100% pro-retiree score in the Alliance’s annual congressional voting record,” said Jackie Boschok, President of the Washington State Alliance for Retired Americans. “We trust him to work to strengthen and increase our hard earned Social Security and Medicare benefits. He knows that 1.4 million people in Washington state rely on Social Security benefits every month. With another term, Adam will continue the fight for our earned benefits for current and future generations.”
“I am a fervent supporter of measures that support our seniors. Programs like Social Security and Medicare are critical to many seniors, both in our 9th Congressional District and throughout the country. With millions of American seniors living off of these benefits, Congress must support legislation that protects these programs,” said Representative Smith.
In addition, Ms. Boschok praised Rep. Smith’s vote for legislation to lower drug costs by requiring Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors; cap out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year; cap insulin copays at $35 per month; and make necessary vaccines free for all Medicare beneficiaries.
“The stakes couldn’t be higher for seniors like me. We need Adam Smith in the House fighting against any Republican plan to cut Social Security and Medicare,” added Ms. Boschok. “That’s why Adam Smith is the obvious choice for Washington state seniors.”
