Fact Check: Trump Lied About Insulin Prices
Washington, DC – At last night’s debate President Trump said his Administration has lowered the price of insulin and that it is “so cheap it’s like water.”
Insulin retails for roughly $300 a vial and most patients with diabetes need two to three vials per month.
“Older Americans wish that insulin were as cheap as water,” said Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans. “Unfortunately, that is not the case. The price of insulin has doubled since 2012 and continues to rise. Donald Trump has had nearly four years to hold pharmaceutical corporations accountable and lower drug prices for the American people.”
“President Trump has utterly failed,” Fiesta continued. “The day that the House of Representatives passed a bill requiring Medicare to negotiate lower prices, he pledged to veto it. In contrast, Vice President Biden will require Medicare to negotiate lower prices.”
“Seniors know how much they are paying for their medicines, no matter what President Trump says,” added Fiesta. “They will not be fooled by these lies.”
