Alliance for Retired Americans Statement on Presidential Campaign

Statement from Alliance for Retired Americans President Robert Roach, Jr. on the state of the presidential campaign.

“Since they took the oath of office, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have fought tirelessly to improve the lives of older Americans and strengthen retirement security for all.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris have delivered lower prescription drug prices for millions of Americans on Medicare, saved more than 2 million workers’ pension benefits, and stood firm against those who want to cut or put at risk the Social Security and Medicare benefits we earned over a lifetime of work.

“And because of Joe Biden, Medicare can now negotiate lower drug prices for more than 65 million Americans with Medicare. No other president could make that happen but Joe Biden did.

President Biden and Vice President Harris know there is more to be done to help older Americans: strengthening Social Security and Medicare for future generations by making the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share; supporting caregivers so more seniors can stay in their homes; and upholding the democratic ideals our country was founded on.

“The stakes are high for older Americans and for our country. Every budget former President Trump sent to Congress included cuts to Social Security and Medicare, and he has spoken publicly of cutting so-called ‘entitlements’ in a second term. Our members will work enthusiastically every day to protect our system of government and make retirement security a reality for millions of seniors.”

The Alliance has 4.4 million members nationwide including more than 900,000 who live in the battleground states of Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
