Retiree Group Endorses Patty Murray for Re-election to U.S. Senate

Cites Senator’s Extensive Legislative Accomplishments and Role in Democratic Leadership to Improve the Lives of Senior Citizens Across the Nation

Seattle, WA – Members of the Alliance for Retired Americans proudly announced their endorsement of Patty Murray for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Washington at an event held at the Machinists Hall in Seattle. The Washington State Alliance for Retired Americans (WSARA) is a grassroots advocacy organization with more than 90,000 members across the state.

“Senator Patty Murray has consistently proven to be an extraordinarily strong advocate for senior citizens,”  said Jackie Boschok, WSARA President. “The Chairwoman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, her ability to advance legislation is most noteworthy. Moreover, she has earned a lifetime score of 96% in the Alliance’s annual Congressional Voting Record.”

“Because of her legislative record and prior accomplishments, we are certain that she will continue to work to expand and preserve our hard earned Social Security and Medicare benefits in the U.S. Senate,” Ms. Boschok continued. “I know that she will continue to work tirelessly to protect our health care and retirement security.”

Ms. Boschok also praised Senator Murray’s advocacy for legislation known as the “reconciliation package,” which is currently pending in the senate, to lower drug costs by requiring Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and cap out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 per year.

“We need Patty Murray in the Senate to continue the fight against Republican initiatives to cut or ‘sunset’ Social Security and Medicare,” emphasized Boschok. “Among the numerous nefarious ideas being circulated by Senate Republicans, Sen. Rick Scott (FL), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has laid out an agenda which includes automatically terminating Social Security and Medicare within five years unless renewed by legislative action. We need to keep our champions like Patty Murray in the Senate to continue the fight against these types of legislative proposals, which are completely antithetical to the interests of seniors.”
