Vice President Biden Chooses Pro-Retiree Running Mate

The following statement was issued by Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, regarding Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden’s selection of California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate:

“Vice President Biden’s selection of Senator Harris is a positive sign for seniors.

“Senator Harris has earned a 100% lifetime score in the Alliance for Retired Americans’ annual Congressional Voting Record. If she is elected, retirees should feel confident that she will work to protect and expand their earned Social Security and Medicare benefits.

“In contrast, Vice President Mike Pence earned a dismal 3% lifetime score when he served in the U.S. House of Representatives for his votes against retirees’ best interests. Time and again President Trump and Vice President Pence have failed to protect older Americans — even going so far as to vow to defund Social Security by repealing the payroll tax permanently.

“The Alliance’s 4.4 million members are paying close attention to the presidential race and looking to support a pro-retiree team in the White House.”
