Fact Sheet: Social Security Fairness Act

The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) claw back the Social Security benefits of workers or their spouse or widow(er) if they worked for a period of time in jobs not covered by Social Security.

To address this problem, Representative Rodney Davis (R-IL) introduced H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, which would repeal WEP and GPO.
