Retirees Celebrate Social Security’s 83rd Anniversary by Endorsing Senator Heinrich

Anniversary Comes Amid Continued Effort to Cut Retiree Benefits

Albuquerque, NM – To mark the 83rd anniversary of Social Security, area retirees with the New Mexico Alliance for Retired Americans will gather in Albuquerque on Friday, August 24 at 2:00 p.m. Members will endorse Senator Martin Heinrich for re-election and thank him for consistently voting in retirees’ best interests.

The event is part of the Alliance’s Anniversary Summer campaign, calling attention to the continued importance of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security to the well-being of older Americans. An anniversary cake will also be shared.

“Some officials in Washington favor a budget for FY 2019 that would cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid by over $1.5 trillion combined over the next 10 years,” said Elva Santos, New Mexico Alliance President “Senator Heinrich will fight against cuts to all of these programs and will stand with retirees throughout New Mexico to strengthen and protect Social Security.”
