President Roach, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Work Together to Address Retirement Security
Alliance President Robert Roach, Jr. attended a labor listening session with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX) recently hosted by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW).
President Roach said at the meeting that retirement security is the most pressing issue in America today. He noted that 10,000 Americans turn 65 every day and that many of them are woefully unprepared financially for their retirement. Rep. Jackson Lee expressed her concern as well. The congresswoman pledged to work with the Alliance and other organizations to pass legislation addressing retirement security.
“I have worked with Rep. Jackson Lee for a number of years. She has always been at the forefront of addressing the nation’s retiree issues, and that is how she achieved a lifetime score of 99% on the Alliance voting record,” said President Roach. “Her support greatly enhances our chances to craft solutions and possibly pass legislation addressing retirement security.”
Following the meeting, Rep. Jackson Lee released a statement, saying, “I am so proud of the dedication and diligence of the Alliance for Retired Americans in ensuring retirees are privy to the social and economic justice and full civil rights present in our constitution. The Alliance makes its voice heard on the issues that matter to current retirees, but also to all Americans who hope to retire one day. I stand with and remain committed to supporting legislation that protects the pensions of thousands of hard-working Americans.”
