Irony in Extending Trade Adjustment Assistance Vote that Would Cut Medicare until Medicare’s 50th Anniversary

“Today’s House action to delay a re-vote on Trade Adjustment Assistance related to Fast Track for the Trans Pacific Partnership is ironic.

“It extends the deadline for voting on $950 million in Medicare cuts until July 30 – the 50th anniversary of the Medicare program.

“Bad trade deals should not be paid for by cuts to seniors’ earned medical benefits. We will continue to urge all members of Congress to reject this TAA package and support the needs of older Americans.”
