Florida Retirees: Nelson Best Choice for Seniors
Will Fight to Lower Prescription Drug Costs, Protect Medicare and Social Security
Wildwood, Florida – Citing his commitment to older Americans, members of Alliance for Retired Americans today stood with Senator Bill Nelson and announced their endorsement of his re-election campaign. The Alliance has more than 188,000 members in Florida.
“Bill Nelson has been a tireless champion for retirees and has our full support in this election. There are more than 3 million Floridians over the age of 65 and we all rely on the Social Security and Medicare benefits we earned over a lifetime,” said Barbara DeVane, Secretary of the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans. “Senator Nelson understands this, and has consistently fought to protect our earned benefits from cuts or privatization schemes. He’s also willing to take on the pharmaceutical corporations and fight to bring down the cost of prescription drugs. He’s earned a lifetime 95% pro-retiree score from the Alliance for Retired Americans for his work on our behalf.”
“Rick Scott has failed to protect retirees as governor and he will not fight for us in Congress. He favors cutting Social Security, telling CNBC that he ‘wants everybody in a 401k.’ He also favors deep cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. We need a senator who understands the needs of older Floridians and puts our needs first.” DeVane continued. “That person is Bill Nelson.”
“It’s so important we keep our promise to Americans who have worked hard and paid into Social Security and Medicare and ensure they can retire with dignity – now and for future generations,” Nelson said. “I’ve always fought to protect the retirement and health security Medicare and Social Security provide to Floridians and I will continue to fight for each and every Floridian, as I always have.”
“We know we can count on Senator Nelson to protect our retirement security and Senator Nelson can count on us to educate, mobilize and turn out older voters for this crucial election,” DeVane concluded.
