Alliance Endorses Keith Ellison for DNC Chair
by Robert Roach, Jr.
President of the Alliance for Retired Americans
The Alliance is pleased to offer our endorsement of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) as he runs for the position of Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
Keith Ellison has been a good friend of the Alliance. We know his background. Since being elected to the U.S. House in 2006, he has earned a perfect 100% pro-retiree score in the Alliance’s Congressional Voting Record. Throughout his career in Congress he has always worked to improve the quality of life for retirees.
We need the Democratic Party to defend our defined benefit pensions from constant attacks at the local, state and national level. With Keith Ellison at the helm, Democrats will fight for a secure retirement for all who have earned it after a lifetime of hard work.
“He’s voted to increase the minimum wage, advocated for better working conditions and proposed a bill to make union organizing a civil right,” AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka wrote in making his own endorsement of Rep. Ellison.
Keith has been just as supportive of older Americans as he has been of all working families. His leadership is what we need as Democrats hold Donald Trump to his promises not to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. With Rep. Tom Price nominated to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell more than ready to work with Price to convince the president to break those promises, it will take a force like Keith Ellison leading the DNC to stand up for retirees’ priorities.
Updated February 14, 2017 – Response from Rep. Ellison:
“The work that the Alliance for Retired Americans does could not be more important,” said Congressman Keith Ellison. “That’s why I’m honored to have their endorsement, and to have a perfect 100% pro-retiree score in the Alliance’s Congressional Voting Record. If elected DNC Chair, I want all ARA members and all seniors to know that I’ll continue having their backs. I’ll fight day in and day out to protect Medicare and Social Security from the attacks of Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. And on top of this, I’m absolutely committed to creating an infrastructure to make voting easier for seniors.”
