Building Justice Campaign
The Alliance continues to support the Building Justice campaign, led by the Sheet Metal Workers and Painters unions, which seeks to improve the quality of new homes and the working conditions for those who build them. The campaign is targeting Pulte, a builder whose Del Webb "active adult" communities account for 45% of the company's overall revenues. A new report, available at www.poorlybuiltbypulte.info, seeks to call attention to the impact of poor working conditions. Last summer, representatives of the company sprayed high-power water hoses on community activists picketing an Arizona worksite.

Presidential Candidates Answer LCAO's Questions
In November 2007 the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO) contacted the campaigns of all the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates, asking the candidates to respond to a set of questions on critical aging issues facing the nation. Responses have been received from Democratic candidates John Edwards, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, as of December 31, 2007.

Caring for an Aging America Act
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has introduced the Caring for an Aging America Act, legislation aimed at addressing the crisis in providing care for a senior population that is projected to almost double over the next 25 years. The Boxer bill is endorsed by the Alliance for Retired Americans.
