Building Justice Campaign
The Alliance continues to support the Building
Justice campaign, led by the Sheet Metal
Workers and Painters unions, which seeks to
improve the quality of new homes and the
working conditions for those who build
them. The campaign is targeting Pulte, a
builder whose Del Webb "active adult"
communities account for 45% of the company's
overall revenues. A new report, available
at www.poorlybuiltbypulte.info,
seeks to call attention to the impact of poor
working conditions. Last summer,
representatives of the company sprayed
high-power water hoses on community activists
picketing an Arizona worksite.

- Gone For Now The movie "Gone For Now" is based on a true story that deals with a grandfather who has been denied visitation rights with his only grandson for close to three years. The film is a fictional account of one man's journey to be reunited with his grandson. There are currently six and a half million grandchildren being raised by their grandparents in the United States and millions of grandparents who are being denied visitation rights with their grandchildren.

- Kaiser Family Foundation Report on the Doughnut Hole A new report by the Kaiser Family Foundation quantifies the number of Medicare Part D plan enrollees who reached the “doughnut hole,” the gap in their prescription drug coverage, in 2007. The study of Part D prescription drug utilization found that 26% of Part D enrollees who filled any prescriptions in 2007 reached the coverage gap. This includes 22% who stayed in the gap for the remainder of the year, and 4% who ultimately received catastrophic coverage.

Caring for an Aging America Act
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has introduced the Caring for an Aging America Act, legislation aimed at addressing the crisis in providing care for a senior population that is projected to almost double over the next 25 years. The Boxer bill is endorsed by the Alliance for Retired Americans.
